Country Garden 1

When I was asked to design the garden of this grand old Georgian bath stone building I immediately decided that the ‘car park’ at the front had to go to be replaced by something more fitting. Over the porch there was some balustrade detailing which I decided to reference, by using Portland stone balustrade to enclose the front terrace.

Much to the delight of my client we unearthed an old well which we transformed into a feature of the terrace by setting a wrought iron grill over it and installing a light. We used Indian Sandstone paving throughout to compliment the bath stone of the building.

When I first arrived the courtyard at the end of the house was filled with three huge conifers making this area very dark and unwelcoming. We took out the conifers, constructed a raised border and a pergola and finished it with a water feature. The brief I was given was to create a Mediterranean feel to this courtyard which I think that I have achieved.
